BP pays millions following another oil spill

BP's oil smeared image took another knock today (May 4) after it paid millions of dollars for its involvement in another oil spill.

The company is amongst the most hated in the US and faced angry scenes in London last month over it handling of the Gulf of Mexico spill.

The latest set-back for those trying to clean up the oil giant's tarnished image saw BP pay $25 million.

However, BP did not admit any liability to see off the federal civil suit concerning leaks from its pipes on the Prudhoe Bay in Alaska oil transit line between March and August of 2006.

In a short statement following the announcement BP said it would also comply with an order to hire an Independent contractor to monitor the pipeline operations and report on compliance with the consent decree.
