Crime scene investigation prove the solution at BEX

Autopsying a horse and using the latest CSI-style techniques has proved to be the perfect tonic to a remediation problem at SustainabilityLive!

The BEX seminar theatre heard about a contamination problem being tackled by Jamie Robinson from Parsons Brinkerhoff.

He explained that Parsons Brinkerhoff had been called in after a number of unexplained sheep and horse deaths.

Using techniques more associated with the Las Vegas based crime solving drama Mr Robinson has delved into the past of the site.

Lead poising was expected and a link to previous heavy mining was expected to show a direct link between contamination and the animal's deaths.

However, an autopsy on a horse from the site completed only two days ago confirmed Mr Robinson's work that it was an area naturally high in lead and zinc, and not a legacy from mining.

He added: "However, there is an interesting liability issue for the local council - which will be worth keeping an eye on."
