Floodgates open for water awards

Water professionals are being invited to take part in the awards which tap into industry achievements and recognise excellence in key areas.

The Water Industry Achievement Awards 2008, run by edie’s sister publications WET News and Water & Wastewater Treatment magazine, will be presented at a glittering, black-tie dinner held at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre on May 21, 2008.

They will be among the highlights of Sustainabilitylive! – the UK’s largest forum for excellence and innovation in environment, water, land and energy.

Donna Bushell, event director, said the awards recognise and reward excellence right across the industry.

“They highlight the outstanding successes of the vibrant and forward-thinking companies and individuals in the UK water industry,” she said.

Entries are now invited for the awards, with the closing date being February 25, 2008.

Last year’s winners included Southern Water and 4Delivery, Yorkshire Water, Enpure, Durapipe, Flownetix and Tony Allum of Halcrow.

This year sees the introduction of three new awards.

  • The Research Project of the Year will reward a research project demonstrating an innovative and original approach to the construction or design of new equipment, processes or technology.
  • The Customer Care Initiative of the Year will be awarded to a water company, contractor or sub-contractor demonstrating exceptional customer care. Understanding that customer service is more than just meeting customers’ expectations, it’s about the action taken to achieve high service levels and being prepared to go the extra mile.
  • The Health and Safety Initiative of the Year will recognise exceptional commitment to all-round health and safety by an organisation. Entries are being encouraged from water companies, contractors and suppliers that have demonstrated a robust and high quality safety management system.
