International business opportunities abound at IWEX

IWEX 2005, (18-20 October, NEC, Birmingham), will offer its UK exhibitors and visitors the opportunity to develop their international business activities.

This is because IWEX will form the epicentre around which UKTI, supported by the International Commercial Centre, has based the programmes of activities for a mission of 32 international buyers and UK exhibitors to meet. The delegates from Mexico, China (Beijing and Guangzhou), South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Russia, will attend the show with the express aim of placing significant orders with UK companies in the water and waste-water industries.

Jessica Moss, the International Commercial Centre’s Inward Mission Coordinator has, in the past several months leading up to the event, worked closely with UKTI’s “water man” David Connolly, and International Trade Managers Gareth Stanley, Michael Hope and Henry le Fleming, to ensure that once on site, the buyers are given every opportunity to meet their objectives.

David says, “The Global market for water products and services is now worth in excess of $300 billion per year. Companies involved in the UK water industry (including the water utilities, contractors, consultants, equipment manufacturers, lawyers and financiers) need to become more active in world markets where their skills and expertise are much in demand and UKTI can help, in this instance, through the delivery of international key decision makers from the public and private sector; organising 8 inward mission programmes including stand visits, a regional tour and a meet the buyer event – We have high hopes for a very productive week.

“Working collaboratively with the International Commercial Centre has helped to reach out to a wider audience and resulted in a positive response from industry who are more alive to overseas market opportunities in these target markets”.

In addition to free advice on international trade opportunities UKTI will be using IWEX to launch the UK’s International Water Capability Statement. This web-based information system contains a wide range of information about the water sector and will be updated regularly. Its key feature is a database of companies in the water sector which can be interrogated by product or service, company name or brand name. This feature will be expanded as more companies sign up.

Enrolment is free of charge and offers free global advertising for UK based water companies. In the first 4 weeks the site received more than 10,000 hits – many from overseas. To learn more and for advice on enrolment call in on David and his team at stand number D55.

Although there is now full take-up at the UKTI meet the buyer it is still possible for IWEX exhibitors to receive the international VIPs or for visitors to meet them on the UKTI stand. If UK companies are interested in meeting with any of the buyers, please contact Jessica Moss on telephone number 0121 767 3244 or email jessica.moss@necgroup.co.uk.
