Three potential sites near Banwell, Axbridge and Clewer have now been ruled out by Bristol Water following geological investigations.
According to Bristol Water, the Cheddar site was the “firm favourite on economic, environmental and geological grounds”.
Consultation work on planning for the site is expected to be carried out shortly, although no planning application for construction has yet been submitted.
