Mums to get together to talk pants

A coffee morning focusing on the benefits of washable nappies is to be held south of London next week.

Surrey's first Nappucino morning will be held between 10am and 12 noon on Thursday, November 17 at Camberley's Arena Leisure Centre.

Parents-to-be will be able to natter about nappies with experts from the Surrey Real Nappy Network, which is made up of mums, midwives, health visitors and others concerned about the environmental impact of the choices we make to keep the baby dry.

As well as the chance for an informal chat there will be demonstrations, displays and talks.

There will also be free nappies given away and cashback incentives to trial reusable nappies.

Dawn McCarron, Surrey Real Nappy Network co-ordinator, said: "The Nappucino aims to be a relaxed informal session where children can play and take part in storytime, whilst parents chat to nappy experts who have experience with using and choosing washable nappy systems to suit all budgets and babies.

"There are discounts on purchasing nappies at the Nappucino and there will also be a free prize draw for a washable nappy provided by Babykind."

While the bulk of environmentalists argue in favour of reusable nappies, there is an ongoing debate as to whether the energy and detergents used washing them have more impact than the binning disposable nappies (see related story).
