Late last year the go-ahead was given for a large incinerator to be built at Poolbeg in Dublin, but local residents are largely opposed because of worries about pollution.

Now an oral hearing will be held, and anyone who lodged a valid objection to the development has an automatic right to attend and participate fully. There were 14 valid objections made to the proposed decision.

After the hearing, which is open to the public, a report and recommendation will be submitted to the EPA Board, and then a final decision will be made on whether or not to grant the license.

The facility, if built, will be the largest of its kind in Ireland, and will be located on Pigeon House Road, Poolbeg Peninsula, Dublin 4.

The Poolbeg power station, with its distinctive chimneys, is nearby.
