Sustainability stats: The week in numbers (5/12/2014)

In the latest edition of our popular series, edie takes a look-back at some of the fascinating figures from the worlds of energy, waste and water.

The week was dominated by George Osborne’s ‘mini budget’ which disappointed sustainability professionals to say the least. Meanwhile, the UN summit in Lima has been a constant source of intrigue, with world governments aiming to hammer out the components of a global climate deal.

Supermarkets were making environmental news this week, as M&S received plaudits for its pioneering Plan A, while Sainsbury’s and Waitrose geared up to tackle one of the great waste problems of the Christmas period.

Finally there was more good news for the solar industry, as a new report suggested it could soon be ready to stand on its own two feet.
