Sustainability stats special: The year in numbers

In a special edition of the Week in Numbers (or the WiNs as it's known around here), edie has rounded up the big figures from 2014 to encapsulate the ups-and-downs of the industry.

One of the bright spots of the year has been the renewable revolution in Scotland. We have written extensively about the country’s clean energy program and it was difficult to pick just one number to sum up Scotland’s sustainability success (so we picked two!)

We have also picked out some of the innovative ways that sustainability issues are being brought into the mainstream. Formula E for example has driven (geddit??) ground-breaking research into battery life and efficiency in electric vehicles.

One of the Government’s flagship efficiency programs ESOS also makes an appearance in the YiNs as it could save money for thousands of UK companies.

Unfortunately it’s not been all rosy in 2014. On the domestic front, flooding has been a point of contention, as the Government has been routinely lambasted for underestimating the extreme weather risks of climate change.

On a global scale, deforestation is finally getting the attention it deserves, while auto manufacturers were being very generous with the efficiency figures they gave to their cars.
