WEEE goes live in UK

News in Brief

The long-delayed WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive finally came into force in the UK on Sunday, July 1.

Under the new regulations, producers of electrical goods are obliged to foot the bill for the recycling and safe disposal of end of life products.

The directive is the latest in a wave of waste-based regulations to come out of Europe which advocate producer responsibility.
