The site could provide inspiration to other environment departments around the world.

The site provides information about sewage spills, beach contamination, storm runoff and other sources of water pollution.

The state Department of Health’s website has an interactive map showing the areas affected.

The goal is to warn the tourists and locals of dangerous contaminated water so they do not enter it.

Environmental Health deputy director, Laurence Lau said: “Water pollution often happens without warning and spills can’t be pulled out of the oceans or streams.

Because water pollution poses health risks, quick warnings are a priority for the department. Our goal is to provide faster, better access to current water pollution information.”

The staff at the Clean Water Branch of the Department of Health monitors events and posts maps and warning signs on the web and at the site of the spill.

Users can also sign up for RSS fees, a method to directly receive updated information that is available on the website.
