WaterAid benefits from edie reporter’s marathon efforts

Edie reporter Carys Matthews completed the Brighton Marathon yesterday (April 15) in a super fast time and raised hundreds of pounds for WaterAid in the process.

Matthews ran the 26.2 mile circuit in 3 hours, 30 minutes and 22 seconds. After the race, she tweeted that she had narrowly missed out on being one of the top 50 fastest women by 30 seconds after “nearly fainting at mile 25” – however she spent the afternoon consoling herself by “rehydrating in the pub”.

Matthews’ efforts have raised an impressive £690 for international charity WaterAid, which helps to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. However the amount still falls short of her £1,000 target.

Edie’s managing editor Will Parsons said: “We are all very proud of Carys and her achievement and to have completed the race in such a great time, and for such a brilliant cause. With drought hitting the headlines this morning, her efforts couldn’t be more timely.

“We’d encourage all edie users to be part of her success by donating what they can, and helping her reach her £1,000 target.”
