Benn to be hauled before committee
News in briefEnvironment secretary Hilary Benn will be grilled by a parliamentary committee over the Government's response to their report on climate change.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee said it was disappointed by the Government's negative approach to a number of the recommendations in its Climate Change: the "Citizen's Agenda" report.
Committee chairman Michael Jack said: "The committee has taken the unusual step of inviting the secretary of state back to explain in person the disappointing and negative tone of the department's response to the committee's very positive recommendations.
"The committee put forward a number of strong ideas on how to improve the Government's policies to encourage individuals to make their own contribution to CO2 emissions reductions."
The committee said Defra's environmental schemes were failing to engage with the public.
