The campaign, which will be one year old next month (September), has brought together 14,650 groups who together have collected thousands of bags of rubbish.

That is enough rubbish to fill up 714 skips and if lined up end-to-end would stretch about 31 miles.

Campaign marketing coordinator, Natalie Forrester, said: “We would like to say thank you to everyone who has taken part in a Big Tidy Up for helping us reach this landmark achievement.

“It is fantastic everyone has come together and made such a positive impact on their local environment and even better is the news our streets are now 50,000 bags of litter cleaner!”
