Britain has only four years left to implement a programme that would prevent the UK from contributing to catastrophic climate change, according to a Friends and the Earth / Cooperative Bank report launched on Friday.

By restricting its carbon emissions to 4.6 Giga-tonnes for the 2000-2050 period, the UK would play its part in preventing temperatures from rising over a critical level of 2 degrees C, the report says. It also lays out the UK’s “first comprehensive roadmap to a low carbon economy,” FoE said.

The report, “The Future starts here,” commissioned from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Science, can be accessed here.
