John Griffiths appointed Welsh environment minister

John Griffiths is the new environment minister for Wales, replacing Jane Davidson who bowed out of politics and stepped down at the Welsh Assembly elections earlier this month.

First Minister Carwyn Jones announced the members of his new cabinet for the Welsh Government today (13 May). Griffiths’ full title is minister for the environment & sustainable development.

Griffith showed an interest in environmental matters in government back in 2002 where as deputy economic development minister, he launched the Green Dragon environmental standard, which aimed to encourage businesses to be more aware of environmental matters.

Griffiths is a former councillor on Gwent County Council and Newport County Borough Council. He has also served as deputy minister within health and social services, and skills.
