Police attacked with wheelie bin ‘weapons’ as London riots ignite

Wheelie bins, bottle banks and their trashy contents are being used by rioters as lethal weapons against the police as London's violent uprisings spread like wildfire across the capital.

During the first outbreak in Tottenham on Saturday evening, five youths set a wheelie bin alight and threw it at riot police.

And last night (8 August), thugs in Hackney pushed large steel trade waste bins into police lines before emptying them out and picking up heavy items such as metal bars and rubble to to hurl at officers.

According to eye witness accounts on twitter, rioters were tipping over bottle banks in Hackney to get at the glass bottles to use as missiles. One tweeted that local residents in her street were now putting bottles in their “normal” residual waste bins to deter thugs from getting at them.

There have also been numerous reports of rows of wheelie bins being lined up by rioters across the city and set alight to act as burning barricades to block off police access while they carry out their destruction.
