Relief for drought-stricken farmers

News in Brief

The EU has allowed farmers to use set-aside land to produce animal feed, after this summer's low rainfall led to animal feed shortages.

"Dried up animal feed is of no use to anyone. It was important for us to react quickly to the exceptional situation caused by the current heatwave and prepare decisions to make life easier for affected farmers", said Mariann Fischer Boel, commissioner for agriculture and rural development.
