US looks to Brazil for bio-fuel tech

News in Brief

America and Brazil are to work together on bio-fuels, with the prospect of Brazil exporting its ethanol-producing technology to the US.

The bio-fuel cooperation plan was launched during US president George Bush's visit to Brazil, as Washington looks to reduce reliance on oil from the middle-east and the increasingly anti-American Venezuela.

But while the US administration seems keen to embrace bio-fuels, some Brazilian energy actors urged Washington to scrap the high tariffs it currently charges on imports of Brazilian ethanol.

President Bush's visit to Brazil is part of his on-going tour of South America.
