Work underway on a national zero waste award

The Government is to launch an accredited zero waste award to encourage businesses and communities to work towards greater waste prevention.

Defra will work with WRAP to develop the award which will cover both commercial and household waste streams across a range of products and materials.

It will feature a stepped accreditation system – gold, silver and bronze – and will be open to industry, community groups and the public sector.

Defra plans to launch it in early 2013.
