Rally drivers attempting to get from London to Athens powered by waste cooking oil scavenged from restaurants have successfully crossed the finishing line.

Since leaving the UK on August 16, the teams have covered more than 2,000 miles through 12 countries using waste oil before receiving a grand welcome from the British Ambassador to Athens on August 27.

Organiser Andy Pag, from London, who was among the drivers taking part, hoped the Grease to Greece rally would raise awareness of using alternative, environmentally-friendly fuels.

The 34-year-old hopes it will become an annual event and is also planning to circumnavigate the globe powered by waste products including old plastic bags.
