Lark Energy add to solar farm portfolio

A newly constructed 3.4MW solar farm, in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, will generate enough electricity to power 900 local homes.

One of the first in its region, three companies – Lark Energy, Prosolia UK and Oakapple, teamed up to build the large-scale solar power generation plant.

The farm comprises of 14,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Lark Energy managing director Jonathon Selwyn explained that the work had to be completed rapidly in order to secure the prevailing feed-in-tariff.

“This solar farm provides a great example of how companies can work together to develop, finance and construct a major renewable energy project in a very short space of time.

“We are convinced that the future for solar in the UK remains bright and we look forward to developing further projects of this type,” he said.

Lark Energy completed two of the UK’s largest solar farms last year – one in Newark and one in Marston. Each farm covers around 30 acres and generates enough energy to power 1,100 homes.

The solar company is also planning a further three of the UK’s largest solar farms at former World War II airfields in Leicestershire and Suffolk. The proposed 3MW solar projects will each consist of approximately 125,000 solar panels, providing enough energy to power 7,000 homes.
