Mitsubishi Motors installs solar panels to up energy efficiency at UK HQ

Mitsubishi Motors UK has installed a photovoltaic (PV) solar electric generating system on the roof of its headquarters in Cirencester, Gloustershire.

Solar panels installed on the roof of Mitsubishi's UK headquarters are expected to save 17.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year

The 50kWp solar installation is made up of 196 Mitsubishi Electric solar panels which are expected to generate 40,050 kilo Watt hours of energy and save 17.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: "The decision to install solar PV was a straight forward one. As well as offering good strong, sound business benefits, this move complements our growing reputation of leading the way in environmental technologies.

"Whilst we know that the government feed in tariff [has been reduced], the increasing efficiency of panels, falling costs of the hardware and increasing energy costs are likely to still make the case to other businesses compelling, and we hope they will follow our lead."

The installation also includes a new 'state-of-the-art' energy generation and performance monitoring system, enabling performance to be monitored via the internet.

At the beginning of July, Mitsubishi Electric Group announced that it had beaten its 2012 target for cutting CO2 emissions from its manufacturing operations while also reducing in-use emissions for 84 of its products by 26%.

The figures, contained in the Groups' Latest Environmental Report, showed manufacturing emissions at 933,000 tonnes, 22,000 tonnes less than expected.
