Mouchel launches new carbon and renewable energy centre
Mouchel, the infrastructure and business services group, has launched a new low carbon and renewable energy centre at Bournemouth University.
The Carbon Management Centre of Excellence (CMCE) opened last week (October 20) in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council, with the aim of helping local businesses take action against climate change and generate local jobs.
As part of the initiative, a new membership service called CRedIT (Carbon Reduction Innovation Team) will be provided to help organisations source, fund and introduce cost-effective technology into the UK to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Mouchel will also independently verify technology suppliers' operational and performance data.
The launch was attended by more than 40 delegates from across the public and private sector and focussed on the technical and commercial challenges faced by organisations seeking to implement measures to reduce carbon emissions.
Speaking at the launch, Mouchel Bournemouth partnership director Tony Williams said: "The Carbon Management Centre of Excellence is a key part of Mouchel's partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council.
"I think that the turn-out today demonstrates the interest with the public and private sectors to reduce carbon emissions and to be more sustainable, as well as to save energy costs at the same time. Our aim is to help people achieve those goals and to grow Bournemouth's Green Knowledge Economy."
CRedIT members will also be provided with access to technologies through a secure online database, and will be invited to regular meetings to hear about new technology, and through one-to-one introductions facilitated by Mouchel.
Commenting on the centre, Bournemouth Borough councillor Robert Lawton said that it would help to raise the area's profile as a "national leader on low carbon".
He added: "The environment here in Bournemouth is key to the town's prosperity and this is one of the main reasons we are working with the centre to pioneer the use of new technology to help deliver a low carbon-based future."
