REEEP calls for clean energy solutions with €4m fund

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) is calling for proposed clean energy solutions that target key emerging markets with a €4.1m (£3.2m) fund.

REEEP is seeking proposals that will push clean energy solutions into long-term commercial solutions, as opposed to one-off pilot projects.

It is looking for solutions in five key thematic areas, which include scaling up successful business models, supporting off-grid generation, harnessing the benefits of clean energy in both food production and in reliable water supply, and opening up energy data in emerging markets.

The $4.1m will support around 30 projects with the maximum amount of funding per project at €150,000. Businesses, project developers, governments, regulators and development institutions have been encouraged to apply, while preference will be given to those who bring significant co-funding.

The funding has come from the Norway, Switzerland and UK governments and will be the ninth fund cycle offered by REEEP.

The focus will again be on the key emerging markets of Brazil, China, India and South Africa but this fund will widen the geographical area to include Columbia, Peru, Ghana, Indonesia and Vietnam due to Swiss funding.

REEEP’s Chairman of the Board and Head, International & Domestic Energy Security at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, Chris Barton, said: “The United Kingdom has been a strong supporter of all REEEP funding cycles to date and this ninth call for proposals focuses on several vital topics including the role of clean energy in food production and in the supply of water, as well as its role in widening energy access.”
