TelecityGroup best in sector for carbon management under Carbon Trust Standard
TelecityGroup has been recertified under the Carbon Trust Standard and achieved a 92.5% score for carbon management qualitative assessment.
The firm, which is a leading provider of data centres in Europe, announced the certification across its UK facilities as part of an on-going commitment to ensuring carbon efficiency in its operations with its carbon management qualitative assessment score reported to be the best in sector.
TelecityGroup demonstrated a 17.5% reduction in carbon emissions relative to its total customer power capacity as part of the certification. The company has held the Carbon Trust Standard since 2010 and was the first data centre company to be recertified in 2012.
In order to achieve recertification under the Standard, organisations must demonstrate every two years ever greater focus on the implementation of energy management policies and demonstrate reductions to their carbon emissions.
TelecityGroup CEO Michael Tobin said: "TelecityGroup has taken a leadership role in ensuring that energy efficiency is woven into the fabric of the company. This has been recognised with our recertification to the Carbon Trust Standard. Our European operations set the highest standards in energy efficiency and demonstrate the data centre industry's critical role in mitigating carbon use in a burgeoning digital economy."
The company manages energy usage at its data centres with an energy management programme designed around the ISO 14001 environmental standard.
In 2013, TelecityGroup was recognised for its commitment to carbon reduction when it was shortlisted for the energy efficiency award at the Sustainability Leaders Awards.
