Take the quiz now!

It’s been marketed as the ‘Copa Verde’ with FIFA keen to promote its environmental credentials, and there are some impressive statistics.

For example, the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasilia has 2.5Mw of solar energy, more than eleven of the competing nations, and the Arena de São Paulo uses GrassMaster technology to produce a sustainable playing surface.

Host nation Brazil employs almost 900,000 people in the renewable energy sector. And, even suppliers and sponsors such as Adidas are feeling the pressure for sustainable change, removing harmful polyfluorinated chemicals from their products.

Despite this, FIFA estimates the 2014 World Cup will produce 2.72 million tCO2, far more than the emissions produced at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

While FIFA and Brazil have offset a large portion through carbon credits it remains to be seen whether the World Cup with have a lasting legacy to justify the massive carbon emissions which accompany the mega event.

But just how good is your knowledge of World Cup sustainability? Do you have the trickery of Brazil when it comes to energy understanding? Or is your memory about as leaky as the Spanish defence?

Put yourself to the test with our edie World Cup Quiz!
