Turkey to power up country's largest ever wind farm
Turkey's largest and most expensive wind farm is due to start producing power in the next few weeks.
The €200m Rotor Elektrik Uretim wind farm, in Osmaniye, has also become the biggest scheme to be accredited under the Gold Standard environmental scheme run by Dublin-based EcoSecurities.
Zorlu Enerji constructed the first phase of the project which currently has 15 turbines in place.
Murat Sungur Bursa, chief executive of Zorlu Energy Group, said: "We should take action to protect the world from which we take our energy.
"All companies in the energy sector should be working towards providing secure and sustainable energy sources for future generations, as well as providing them with a clean environment."
EcoSecurities carried out the emission reduction development cycle for the wind farm, from the preparation of the Project Design Document (PDD) including sustainability assessment and thorough stakeholder consultation, to validation and registration of the project under the Gold Standard.
The first verification for the emission reductions achieved by the wind farm is planned during 2009.
