When the UNFCCC decided towards the end of COP15 to cancel the passes of thousands of delegates one man decided he had to stay.

About midway through the second week in order to make room for politicians arriving late at the event, the passes of several thousand Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs)

Among these was Gary Kendall director of climate change for London based think tank SustainAbility.

He said: “In the early hours of Thursday morning I found a cubby hole in the loo and hid.”

Mr Kendall stayed silent as the UN’s security swept the centre but did not find him.

He added: “After that anyone who is in is in, anyone out is out, I didn’t have a shower or brush my teeth for a few days.

“But I was staggered by the chaos; I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mr Kendall will be chairing Copenhagen: What now? A political debate at the NEMEX seminar theatre between 10.30am and 11.50am on Thursday (April 22).
