edie partners with BEIS to drive climate action through Green GB Week

EXCLUSIVE: edie has agreed a new partnership with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to encourage businesses to seize the opportunities of sustainability and clean growth during Green GB Week (15-19 October 2018).

The new partnership will utilise edie’s purpose-driven Mission Possible campaign to help BEIS tell the story of clean growth and empower organisations of all industry types and sizes to accelerate progress towards a low-carbon economy.

Specifically, edie has developed a brand-new virtual Mission Possible Pledge Wall, enabling our network of sustainability and energy professionals to submit new business commitments online – under the key sustainability pillars of Energy, Mobility, Resources, The Built Environment and Business Leadership.

The partnership will also see edie host an exclusive Science Based Targets Webinar during the week, allowing businesses to explore how carbon-reduction targets made in line with climate science can be used to future-proof business growth.

Claire Perry, Minister for Energy and Clean Growth, said: “The UK is a world leader in clean growth and has built a thriving sector of innovators and businesses driving investment into this extraordinary multi-billion-pound opportunity.

“Climate change is a global problem which requires a response from both the public and private sectors. That’s why we’re holding the first ever Green Great Britain and Northern Ireland Week in October; to highlight the urgent need worldwide for action and the UK economic opportunities of clean growth.”

edie’s content director Luke Nicholls added: “Green GB Week has fallen at a crucial time – we must unlock the economic and industrial benefits of clean growth across the UK, and businesses hold the key.

“We are delighted to have partnered with BEIS for the development of the Mission Possible Pledge Wall and Science Based Targets Webinar, and we believe these outputs will go some way towards highlighting the clean growth opportunity and driving climate action.”

Mission Possible Pledge Wall

In the build-up to Green GB Week and beyond, businesses will be encouraged to make new commitments to edie’s Mission Possible Pledge Wall, supporting the Week’s aim to promote the business opportunity of clean growth and encourage climate action.

Already, 16 Mission Possible Pledges have been added to the Wall, with the likes of Coca-Cola European Partners, Johnson & Johnson and House of Fraser all showcasing their individual commitments to support the Mission Possible campaign’s aims.

Other organisations that are interested in making a new commitment to be showcased on the Mission Possible Pledge Wall should email missionpossible@edie.net with details of their pledge.

The Mission Possible Pledge Wall can be viewed here.

Science Based Targets Webinar

Science-based targets offer businesses an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage in the transition to a low-carbon economy and avoid the worst effects of climate change.

With that in mind, edie is bringing together a selection of leading businesses and clean growth experts for a one-hour webinar – taking place during Green GB Week – to explore how science-based targets can be used to future-proof growth.

Running on Thursday 18th October at 2pm (a day dedicated to ‘business action’ as part of Green GB Week), the Science Based Targets Webinar will include a presentation from Eliot Whittington, acting director of policy at The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, along with two leading businesses that have each announced science-based targets.

The Science Based Targets webinar is free to watch and can be registered for here.

Green GB Week

Running from 15-19 October, Green GB Week will showcase the benefits clean growth will bring to all parts of society. Through the Week, the Government wants local communities to embrace this challenge and grow momentum from the ground up.

This year, Green GB Week will focus on celebrating UK leadership on climate change, marking the 10-year anniversary of the Climate Change Act, while highlighting the business opportunity from clean growth.

The Week will include a series of live events to showcase the leading role of the UK’s academic community and businesses in developing new low-carbon technologies, innovative financial products and business models that will tackle climate change while generating economic growth. A detailed programme for the week will be released by BEIS in due course.

The new Green GB Week website, incorporating the Mission Possible Pledge Wall, can be viewed here.

  1. C. Alvin Scott says:

Hi There, Should there not be a section where new innovation projects can be posted.

This is a place and opportunity to make people aware that there is at least one hydrogen True Zero Emissions project which will bring about Affordable Zero Emissions Transport if it gets support. It will also lead other applications bringing about Zero emissions Off Grid Houses. It will also lead to people who still do not have access to energy to have electricity and H2 gas from a H2 EV that will improve their work efforts and also their lifestyles.

At present in collaboration with a UK University, ACE II Alternating Current Electrolysis produces major amounts of Hydrogen basically Catalytic Carbon and Powdered Aluminium.

In what is now a separate project HyPulJet Ezi H2 ACE II is to become Ezi H2 to be developed as a Hydrogen on board the EV Hydrogen fuel on demand from HyPulJet H2 combustion turbine

The intention being to develop a Hydrogen power pack for EVs in the first instance, where Ezi H2 units will be will be a clip in unit. These units will NOT contain any flammable material which is superior to a petrol tank

Objective to make the Industry aware that for similar costs there can be Affordable Zero emissions EVs

To do this the intention is to remove the petrol fuel system and petrol engine-generator range extender from a BMW i3 and replace it with HyPulJet Ezi H2 power pack. Could eventually cut the battery pack as the Power Pack will power the car at all times at Zero emissions So the Hydrogen BMW i3 will be at a similar price to the petrol version or lower.

Why combustion and not a more efficient H2 Fuel Cell? The vehicle movement causes Air Impurities to enter the flow of 99.999% H2 which then blocks the FC. Combustion will not be affected by the Air Impurities

Look forwards to a reply from Edie if there could be a section for New Innovation because this is just one, perhaps the first but the World certainly needs this and more to happen rapidly. Mrs May held a Zero emissions summit and by my understanding this project is the only one at present which can Claim to be True Zero emissions in use which means that at no time is it connected to any Fossil Fuels energy.
