The minister delivered the keynote address at BASE London this morning (July 22) in the city’s financial district.
But, speaking afterwards he admitted the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) had to change the CRC to fill the country’s financial ‘black-hole’.
As Mr Barker joined a panel to discuss how to make London more sustainable the Government was criticised for taking away the revenue generating element of the CRC.
Mr Barker said: “With CRC hands up, guilty as charged, it was to do with filling a financial black-hole … a revenue filling move.”
However, Mr Barker went on to explain that green announcements from DECC were on a bit of a ‘hiatus’ at the moment.
He added: “You can expect a lot of press releases soon as we settle down for some longevity.”
