#SustyTalk: WBA's Vicky Sins on resilience and climate ambition post-pandemic
edie's #SustyTalk interview series continues with senior reporter Sarah George dialling the World Benchmarking Alliance's (WBA) climate lead Vicky Sins for a discussion on disclosure, relilience and ambition.
With edie readers working remotely or on furlough, this brand new series of video interviews keeps you connected to the inspirational business leaders who are continuing to drive sustainability and champion climate action from their own homes.
#SustyTalk is all about keeping edie's loyal readers connected to sustainable business leaders across the world, whilst reminding us all that sustainability and climate action must go on through the current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.
The latest episode features the WBA's climate benchmarking lead Vicky Sins. After the Alliance's electric utilities benchmark revealed a shocking lack of alignment with the Paris Agreement, Vicky discusses the key opportunities and challenges for businesses in this sector and beyond post-lockdown.
Published last month, the benchmark found that less than one in ten of the world's largest electric utilities are operating in line with climate science and that seven in ten will exceed their carbon budgets within 13 years.
"The reason we do this research and publish these results is to empower a broad set of stakeholders; we need companies to disclose as a first step and to strategically buy into the renewable, low-carbon future," Vicky explains.
Benchmark aside, Vicky also provides best-practice advice on embedding a strong sustainability culture to bolster resilience.
Please note that, in this conversation, Sarah and Vicky refer to edie's previous interview with the WBA's executive director Gerbrand Haverkamp. This discussion took place in early March and saw Gerbrand make predictions on how corporates would apply crisis management strategies to their supply chains without backtracking on social or environmental commitments. edie's coverage of that interview can be read in full here.
