During the ceremony, which takes place at Park Plaza Westminster, Paul will provide his insights and advice for sustainability professionals based on his decade in charge of Unilever, which emerged as a sustainable business behemoth under his leadership.

As the current chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and The B Team, and vice-chair of the UN Global Compact, Paul remains a leading proponent that business can – and should – be a force for good. He was described recently by The Financial Times as "A standout CEO of the past decade”, whose role in helping to redefine the relationship between business and society has been "path-breaking”.

'Personal mission'

As Unilever CEO, Paul demonstrated that a long-term, multi-stakeholder model – captured in the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan – can go hand-in-hand with good financial performance. During his tenure, Unilever became one of the best-performing companies in its sector, delivering 10 years of consistent top and bottom-line growth.

"To be able to introduce Paul Polman as our Guest of Honour for this year's Sustainability Leaders Awards is a real privilege," said edie’s content director Luke Nicholls. "Having embedded a sustainability-first agenda into Unilever and pursued a personal mission to be a force for good, he encapsulates everything that our Awards scheme is about."

As the UK’s largest and most prestigious green-business awards schemes, the Sustainability Leaders Awards has undergone a major revamp this year, with a host of new categories and judges, a new Awards venue, and a new Mission Possible theme – making 6 February 2019 the biggest night of the sustainable business calendar.

After a record-breaking year of entries, this year's Awards shortlist has been whittled down to 131 people, projects, products and organisations that are together redefining what it means to be a sustainable, ethical and responsible business. And there is still time to reserve your place...
