Developed to reflect on Earth Overshoot Day 2020, this episode sees edie’s senior reporter Sarah George exploring the ways in which businesses are changing their targets, processes, projects and models to close the loop on some of the most commonly-wasted materials.

First up, Sarah speaks to Ball Corporation’s chief commercial and sustainability officer Kathleen Pitre, for insight into how life cycle analyses (LCAs) are evolving in the packaging sector and how the circular economy is becoming a pre-competitive issue in some parts of the private sector.

Our second interview is with Essity’s UK environment and retail compliance manager Jo Pybus, who provides an update on progress towards the company’s material goals and discusses the ways in which businesses will need to engage with consumers and challengers post-lockdown.

Last but by no means least is an interview with CDSL’s managing director Andrew Sharp, who has been working to create a circular economy for electronics and electrical appliances for more than 25 years. Andrew discusses, among other things, forthcoming legislation in this space and how businesses can help to tackle fly-tipping.
