Angry scenes as protesters turned away from BP AGM

Prominent anti BP protester Diane Wilson poured what looked like oil over her face and hands as she was refused entry to a meeting of BP shareholders and investors.

Mrs Wilson, a co-founder of the Codepink protest group, claimed to be a BP shareholder and demanded to be let into the oil giant’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in London’s Excel centre today (April 14).

The protester hit the headlines in the US last year when she first covered herself in an oil like substance at a Congressional hearing grilling BP before being escorted away by police officers.

However her reputation appeared to proceed her today when police officers and security staff refused Mrs Wilson, and a male companion, entry to the centre.

Edie asked Mrs Wilson why she was being refused entry to the centre and she replied by pouring what looked like oil on to hands and her face, before saying: “This is why!”

She then shoved her hands towards security guards, policemen and cameras before a short standoff.

During the melee other protesters, including members of the GMB union and communities hit by the oil disaster, poured into the centre.

But, the rest of the protest was largely good natured and they moved on eventually after being asked to by police.
