Environment sector’s chance for royal kudos

Royal recognition awaits for companies that can demonstrate enterprise, innovation and sustainability - qualities possessed by most of the environmental sector.

The closing date for nominations for the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is fast approaching and those who wish to put forward inspirational firms for consideration in 2006 need to do so by the end of this month.

Many of the previous winners are firmly committed to the wedding of the environment and business and include scrap metal recyclers to CSR consultants, shredder manufacturers to solar panel installers.

The awards are split into three categories with both companies and individuals vying for accolades for International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development.

Unlike many other awards schemes, companies cannot enter themselves and must be nominated to be eligible.

“This year is the 40th anniversary of the Scheme and the diversity of winners over that time has been remarkable,” said Steve Brice, secretary to the Queen’s Award office.

“From huge multi-nationals to companies with just two employees.

“I believe that there are many successful organisations that can join them in this very special year.

“The Business Awards recognise the contribution made by the whole workforce and everyone in the organisation can share in the glory – particularly at a celebration at Buckingham Palace hosted by HM The Queen when She requests that all levels of staff be represented.”

Nominations must be received by midnight on October 31.
