Using the platform of Enterprise Week, which ran from November 14 to 20, the EA has been wooing the next generation of entrepreneurs, attempting to persuade them that there is a future in green business.

The agency has been busy promoting its NetRegs website (see link) which offers guidance to SMEs looking for help and a straightforward explanation of their environmental responsibilities and opportunities.

Nick King, a spokesman for the agency, said: “At the Environment Agency, we encourage young enterprise that benefits the economy and the environment.

“The NetRegs site has been specially designed to help those who are new to the regulations.”

Among the eco-friendly role models lauded during this year’s Enterprise Week was Kelly Atkins from the East Midlands, Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2003.

Her company, Carpet Burns, reuses waste carpet to manufacture a material that can be used for a range of unique interior products as well as sheeting.

Her entrepreneurial vision created the opportunity for waste to be diverted from landfill, thus contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
