An estimated 75% of landfill waste in the region comes from businesses and to help address this Remade Essex and the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development are teaming up to launch a new scheme to provide information and contacts for those wishing to increase their recycling rates.
The initiative, Remade East, will be launched on July 26 at Cambridge’s Moller Centre.
The plan is to help businesses find outlets to recycle their waste and provide free business support to the waste and recycling industry as well as develop a free, east-to-access database of the regional waste management sector.
A helpline for those producing the waste will also be launched, as well as a small grants scheme and courses to keep managers informed about waste issues.
Simon Chiva, head of the resource efficiency unit at UK CEED, said: “Our launch event will inform businesses about the new services we are developing.
“We understand that the waste and recycling industry is a hard industry to operate in, despite all the new opportunities being created by legislation and the changing demands of businesses. We hope the scheme will assist in taking out some of the uncertainty out of the industry.”
