Belfast business cuts emissions

Northern Ireland's Bombadier Aerospace in Belfast has been successful in implementing a series of environmental policies, according to reports.

The facility has managed to cut its carbon emissions by 70% since 2005, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

In 2007 alone, the company managed to save 14,000 tonnes of CO2 and its total energy consumption reduced by 13%.

Among the features that have been installed to save energy are a high efficiency boiler, energy-saving lighting and an energy consumption monitoring system that allows the firm to spot where most of their energy is used.

Recycling stations have been set up onsite, which has helped the firm reduce the amount of waste it sends to landfill.

“We have developed a strong set of environmental values,” said Russell McFadden, general manager in Transformation.

“Despite increased activity levels, we continue to take significant steps to make the operation of our organisation more energy-efficient and the management of our waste more environmentally prudent.”
