Time running out for housing consultation

There are just a few days left for the housing industry to give its views in a major consultation on reducing carbon emissions in existing homes.

The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) has teamed up with the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes, the Sustainable Development Commission and the Technology Strategy Board to carry out the Government-backed consultation project.

The first part of the project, a two-week online consultation, is still ongoing but will come to an end on Friday.

Following the consultation, the UK-GBC will be hosting a webinar and a separate workshop in September to discuss the consultation responses.

The aim of the project is to produce a report for ministers by the end of next month ahead of the upcoming Government consultation on energy efficiency and the forthcoming Low Carbon Homes Strategy.

UK-GBC chiefs want to put together a list of measures to help Government achieve its climate change targets up to 2022 – the end of the third carbon budget.

The project also aims to draw up a high-level roadmap to 2050 showing what needs to be done to remain on course for an 80% cut in carbon.

The online consultation is focusing on four key areas: technology and innovation, markets/service offerings, behaviour change and awareness, and policy.

More information on the online consultation, webinars and workshops can be found here.

Last month, the UK-GBC also launched a task group to draw up guidance for the building industry to help it achieve Government sustainability targets for non-domestic buildings (see related story).
