Wind Energy Direct (WED) is to manage, finance, develop and maintain 15 on-site wind turbine facilities as part of a “behind the meter” electricity concept, reports the Irish Examiner.

The firm will install wind turbines at various commercial sites without capital costs to the owners, helping the companies insulate themselves from rising energy costs.

It claims that installing two 2MW turbines could save a firm Euro 1m on energy bills within five years.

WED managing director Dominic Costello told the newspaper: “The large-scale Munster-based project involves the installation of two 2MW turbines on-site, providing the company with an estimated Euro 110,000 saving on its energy bill in year one.

“WED will install and maintain the turbines without any capital costs to the companies.

“The first step is a feasibility study to determine the economic viability of the project taking into consideration such criteria as wind resource, electrical load profile and planning.”

According to the Irish Times, electricity prices rose 17.5% last month as fossil fuel costs soared.
