The UK Government announced the majority of the public are behind plans to introduce carbon-cutting measures in the residential sector.

Chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to reveal the first three carbon budgets this week, while the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) is preparing to put its Big Energy Shift plans in place.

Seven million homes will be given the opportunity to upgrade to energy-efficient and micro-generation technology over the next 11 years.

This step should help homeowners reduce spending on power and cut their carbon emissions.

DECC hopes to give every UK home the chance to take advantage of the measures by 2030.

“People are enthusiastic and positive about the need for better energy efficiency in our homes and communities,” explained energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband.
