Consultancy reports record growth

Environmental consultancy, SLR, has announced a 73 per cent increase in revenue for the last year - the largest increase in the group's 15 year history.

Results for the year ending 31 October 2008 show an increase in turnover to £54.6m – up from £31.6 million in the previous year.

SLR has 22 offices in the UK and Ireland along with 24 in USA and Canada. It achieved strong growth in all the sectors in which it operates, consolidating its position as a leading player in the energy, natural resources and waste management sectors.

The company also sustained a high level of repeat revenue with 55 per cent of income coming from clients of more than five years standing.

In the last year, SLR further extended its regional coverage in the UK, which remains its largest market, with the opening of additional offices in Chelmsford, Exeter and, most recently, Belfast. It also completed a number of acquisitions; Architecture and Planning Solutions (APS) in Bromley; FMH Consulting in Bath; and Bowman Planton in Stafford shortly after year end.

In addition, the acquisition of the CSA Group in Dublin not only strengthens SLR’s presence in Ireland but also enhances the company’s capability in energy and carbon management, including carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Across the Atlantic, SLR’s US arm opened new offices in Houston and Indianapolis while its Canadian division, which also achieved strong growth, was awarded Environmental Employer of the Year (2008) by ECO Canada.

David Richards, chief executive of SLR Management Limited, said: “This is a very strong performance.

“We expect to see continued organic growth this year and our strategy remains to supplement this through selective acquisitions to strengthen and increase our technical and geographic coverage.”

These results are the first announced by SLR since 3i Group became the new investment partner in the firm in May 2008.
