Simon Johnson, 33 of Mansfield, pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 10 June to dumping oil drums, bumper bars and a vehicle battery.
The dumping, on Eakring Road on the east of Mansfield, was filmed covertly by the Environment Agency after the area became a notorious for flytipping.
The agency, working with Mansfield District Council, in what they codenamed ‘operation maid marion’ installed covert cameras on the Eakring Road to catch anyone illegally dumping waste.
On 22 October last year, Johnson was caught on camera dumping oil drums and other wastes from his truck and driving off.
He was arrested and interviewed on 4 March this year, when he admitted dumping and claimed it was from vehicle work he undertook in his spare time.
In mitigation Johnson asked the court to take into account the early guilty plea and his ‘significant personal mitigation’, he was also told to pay £500 towards the cost of the prosecution.
