The workers have carried out various actions since disputes with Total, owners of the plant, over the employment of Italian contractors since January.

Total informed the staff last night (18 July) after they took action over alleged proposals of more than 50 redundancies.

Workers have been told they can reapply for jobs but to do this they need to go back to work.

Total has also stated it will not hold talks with the protesters until they return to work.

Other plants are also said to considering strike action in support of the workers.
