The London police service has commissioned the consulting and business services group to engage its 53,000 police staff on environmental issues.

As part of the corporate Environmental Strategy and commitment from senior managers, the MPS aims to raise environmental awareness of employees and change behaviour to reduce the environmental impact of police activities.

Under the contract Mouchel will review the existing communications strategy and undertake an audit of current environmental understanding.

Mouchel will identify core messages and themes and develop an Environmental Communications Strategy.

Their sustainability experts will also train facilities managers and produce supporting training collateral, including a training DVD.

Emma Devenish, Head of Environment and Sustainability at Metropolitan Police Service, said: “The Metropolitan Police Service is aiming to change employee behaviour to reduce environmental impacts of the organisation.

Mouchel demonstrated sound technical expertise in reducing environmental impacts as well as a track record in developing awareness-raising materials through comprehensive research and consultation.”

Amanda Aukett, Project Manager at Mouchel, said: “Mouchel’s sustainability team is pleased to be working with the MPS to improve awareness of environmental issues.

“We look forward to drawing on our experience of working with public sector organisations to help bring about a green culture shift and reduce MPS’s environmental impact.”
