Shredders offer iltimate solutions in tackling wide variety of waste

Bin Systems Ltd, manufacturer of bin washing, lifting and tippling devices used in industry and by NHS trusts, expanded its product portfolio with the launch of a range of industrial shredders in April this year. The company now runs the UK shredder agency for the waste industry, on behalf of the Italian shredder manufacturer Satrind, which serves markets world-wide.

Shredding can provide a solution for companies, major recyclers or authorities

who need to dispose of large quantities of waste. Bin Systems’ range of industrial

shredders offers heavy-duty units from 10hp to 400hp. Satrind manufactures both

single-, double- and triple-shaft shredders suitable for destroying a wide range

of materials. Bin Systems points out that shredding waste can reduce its volume

by up to 90% and also has considerable environmental and economic advantages

because it enables a smaller volume of waste to be transported to landfill and

for landfill costs to be significantly reduced. Whether a customer needs to

reduce industrial or CA waste, or produce specific particle sizes in order to

prepare materials for any of today’s alternative technological disposal methods,

Bin Systems Ltd states that it can offer an extensive product portfolio to provide

the shredding solution.

Bin Systems Ltd supplies a wide range of two-, three- and four-shaft shredder

models with installed power ranging from 10HP to 400HP. The shredder product

line can deal with a wide variety of materials including municipal solid waste,

car and truck tyres, cardboard and plastic recycling waste, paper and confidential

documents, pallets, metal and plastic drums, rubber, wood and furniture offcuts.

Drum shredding

One interesting example of the use of shredding is the application of Satrind

F1015 shredder to shred plastic chemical drums. The machine was supplied by

Bin Systems to the Waste Treatment Division of the Waste Recycling Group, for

its plant at Blackburn Meadows, Sheffield. The F1015 shredder has replaced an

older machine that was already on site.

Waste Recycling Group plc (WRG) is an independently owned British waste management

company, which handles nearly 10 million tonnes of waste per year. The company

processes a wide range of waste types and its major customers include both local

authorities and commercial customers. WRG operates on a national basis, with

its Blackburn Meadows plant one of three in the North of England dealing specifically

with the treatment of liquid waste.

The F1015 shredder supplied by Bin Systems is a twin-shaft model. With its

large hopper capacity and shredding inlet it is suitable for the destruction

of plastic chemical drums, such as those handled by WRG. These drums are reduced

in volume by up to 90% by the shredding process, allowing waste disposal costs

to be minimised. A far smaller quantity of waste now needs to be sent to landfill,

having significant environmental benefits. Loose waste can also be easily containerised,

minimising problems such as waste wind scatter around the site.

The F1015 shredder can also effectively destroy a wide range of other materials,

states Bin Systems, including plastic, rubber, lightweight metal products, catering

waste and confidential documents. The throughput achieved with these products

varies according to the nature of the material, the method of hopper feed, the

length of the cutting chamber and the blade configuration, although waste volumes

can still be reduced by up to 90%, the company adds.
