Some negotiations are still continuing on an informal basis but the poorer countries made the decision to pull out of formal talks over the developed world’s commitment to emissions cuts.
Delegations were angry at what they saw as moves by the Danish host government to sideline talks on more emission cuts under the Kyoto Protocol.
In the first week of the talks a delegation from the tiny Pacific island nation of Tuvalu managed to get talks suspended after demanding that any changes to the UN climate convention and Kyoto Protocol were debated in full.
However, this second suspension is more serious with the developing nations refusing to continue together.
Indications are the talks should resume later today with the developing countries looking to secure climate change rules they won in Kyoto.
