Another Award Winning Sustainable Fire Station

London Fire Brigade's Croydon Fire Station has won the Refurbishment of the Year award at the CIBSE Low Carbon Performance Awards 2010.

Scott Wilson provided multi-disciplinary services for the refurbishment of the building with a clear focus on improving building fabric, reducing the energy requirement and providing low carbon energy. The project comprised of roof insulation upgrade, window and curtain wall replacement, installation of high efficiency, PIR & luminance controlled lighting and the provision of photo voltaic panels and a biomass boiler.

Andrew Friedrich, Technical Director for Scott Wilson, comments, “We are delighted that Croydon Fire Station has received this accolade. We incorporate energy and resource efficiency into all our designs and strive to deliver low carbon solutions with quantifiable savings. This award is testament to the close working relationship we’ve developed with our client to work together towards the same consistent goal of a sustainable future for local communities.”

Scott Wilson has received similar award winning success with Harold Hill Fire Station, another project for the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA). In this case, three interconnecting industrial units have been converted to form a fully operational two-bay fire station. The building meets LFEPA’s energy policy and incorporates sustainable and ‘future proof’ design.

The project team received the award at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday 3 February 2010.
