BEX, part of Sustainabilitylive!, will hear from Jaime Robertson of Parsons Brinckerhoff on the subject of ‘Is it your liability?’.

Mr Robertson says business need to look at how it deals with ‘fairly regimented’ rules surrounding contaminated land.

“Understanding sources is key”, says Mr Robertson: “the way we’ve been doing things is linked to the aspects of the regulation and it time people started thinking beyond this.”

He’ll also be explaining how he saved one client who was being asked to clean up contaminated ‘a lot of money’, by proving it was not his responsibility.

And, on another case in south Wales where there were a number of unexplained animal deaths, but he was able prove the land was not contaminated.

He added: “Using an x-ray florescent meter we established the area had an enormous concentration of lead.

“Further research showed it was a former lead mining area which was enormously high in lead, so it was just bad luck.”

Mr Robertson will be speaking at the BEX seminar theatre at 10.50am April 20.
